DEMO RELEASE SUCCESS
Thank you to all of our fans and testers who’ve downloaded the new free demo of Miner Wars 2081; the response has been phenomenal.
In fact, reception was so great that it caused an interim halt to our file storage servers, and subsequently we’ve upgraded to a more reliable storage provider – Amazon S3.
We had 1,000 new registrations within 24 hours, and traffic jumped 30 times higher than usual. So as you can see, the response has been more than a little hectic for our crew at Keen Software House.
MORE DEMO STUFF
As a reminder, the free Miner Wars 2081 demo is still available:
To download the demo – please visit
http://mirror1.minerwars.com/Downloads/MinerWarsSetup.exe
Or for further download options:
http://www.minerwars.com/Downloads.aspx
The demo version of the game runs much like the full version - it will include all of the same features (i.e. harvesting, drilling, weapons, etc.) and receive regular updates, the only restriction being that players are limited to a particular sector in space.
If players decide they would like to play the full game, they are able to simply purchase an account upgrade on www.minerwars.com, and play immediately!
Please note: This is a PRE-ALPHA and still currently in a very early state of production. It should be considered a work in progress. Updates and features are added regularly.
NEW FEATURE – MODULAR ARCHITECTURE.
Very soon, Keen Software House will be releasing Modular Architecture into Miner Wars.
Many of the features will include, but not be limited to:
Prefabs
Prefabs use is completely up to the player. The construction process is exactly the same, whether you make a space ship, space station or an asteroid base.
Editor & Sharing
Players may construct ships, stations and asteroid bases. Players will also have the ability to share said items.
Hierarchy with prefabs
Whole assembled parts from previous structures can be used in future projects, saving time and allowing players to make vast and incredible structures.
Modular approach
Truly breakable structures with realistic damage, which can be repaired or built upon.
Think of Minecraft, but with pretty visuals and fewer cubes.
CREW MEMBERS
We at Keen Software House would like to introduce Slobodan Stevic, our Art Director.
He is a great and powerful man. Approximately 6’3” with satin gold curls; he’s 200 pounds of Serbian muscle in a turtleneck sweater.
Slobodan manages the visuals of Miner Wars, and is the one responsible for all the cool looking models, sleek textures and interesting smells around the office.
Slobodan is from Belgrade, Serbia (they have internet now, apparently); when he’s not playing the keyboard, the drums, or enjoying the dangerous sport of free-climbing, he can usually be found playing with his joystick…
He is a fine addition to the Miner Wars team.

A few fiduciary announcements:
(1) Changes are being implemented to the Private Test Build policies.*
a) Access to the Private Test Build will be given hereafter to clients of whom contributions of 30 EUR or more are made.
b) Customers who already have access to the Private Test Build will keep their account status
(2) Distinctions will be made with concern to purchases of the Miner Wars 2081 game and contributions towards production development. From now on, these will be two separate entities and payments towards one will be independent of the other; i.e. access to the Private Test Build will require a purchase of the Miner Wars 2081 game and an additional 30 EUR contribution.
*Reminder: the Private Test Build must not be confused with the current public pre-alpha version of the game. Every customer gets access to the Public Build. The Private Test Build is supposed to be testing version of the game with more frequent updates, different database and user base.

Don't try to compare this to Minecraft. You got nothing on Minecraft. The way it looks, its more like Garry's mod.
That said, modular architecture looks incredibly promising.

QUOTE: NEW FEATURE – MODULAR ARCHITECTURE.
:D <- My face will stay like this for about 3 days. This design reminds me more of a cross between EVE online and Garry's mod. However, I would like to know several things:
Will we be able to make modular ships like this? -If so I call making the Deathstar...
Will there be functions to our creations (can I stick a repair-dock/turret/engine/etc. on my space station?)
Are you keeping the boxy-look in that picture or will there be other shapes as well?
Edit:
Will there be a poly-count max? (or maximum number of parts/etc.)
Are there only certain points that you can attach parts (I would assume so sense it will be 'modular' but it would be nice for a confirmation)?
Good job guys this is shaping up to be one helluva game! Edit 2: Also welcome Mr. Stevic glad to have you on-board.

Honestly i liked the reference to minecraft. Minecraft = FREAKING HUGE sand box building game. thus i gather that MW will be very flexable with what you build.
And how do you like that.... my first post ever since july 3rd when i joined :P

Hmm I should read a whole thread before posting :)
Damn. Im not too happy about that. I already paid for the game so I could access this test build. Im not about to donate 30Euros to help test the game as well.
It seems a poor tactic to try and make people donate more cash than they would.

s20dan, I sent you an email with the description between public and test build and I also posted it somewhere on this forum.
You don't have to feel ripped off - you have purchased Miner Wars and you have access to it. You can play it.
Test build is a private environment (well not 100% true because everyone who purchased MW in 2010 has access to it - if he wants).

I have to mention that you guys seem to change up your policies on who gets what quite often.
I'm not particularly satisfied that I bought the game shortly after you guys decided new buyers would no longer get access to the test build, but that's my own fault for not reading this particular forum I guess. I actually would have bought this game a lot earlier, but last time I checked up on it was when the difference between the MMO and Single/Multi-player version of the game was pretty unclear and a lot of people were complaining.

We might easy the requirements for getting into the test build, e.g. require a medal or something like that.
But again, it's a private thing and it doesn't even have to be public. We "didn't change our mind". It was just a luck that early adopters got in.

Yeah i gotta be fairly honest I bought the game before but had to wait the 7 days for paypal to complete it, lucked forward to the test build playing but I understand I guess. Just was a major factor point of buying at such an early stage in production :)

I am not sure if we understand each other: everyone who purchased the game has access to pre-alpha. You can play it. There is no limitation.
Again, test build is different environment.

Hip hip to that, I like how soon your hoping to have it out. Personally I think the best way to keep people excited ( or maybe just me) is never leaving too long between keep people up to date. Something this team are amazing at delivering is fast news never leaving us in the dark.

So if say I bought the pre-alpha, I get all the updates until the full game is released then what? Do I get the full game for free since i got the pre-alpha? Or do i have to re-buy the game? I think everyone that buys the pre-alpha should get some extra bonus like a discount or something. Kinda like you did with Minecraft in you didnt have to pay any extra to get the full version :D

If you purchase the game now, you are getting the final game and all that entails with the main campaign and multiplayer modes. It does not include the MMO content when that is enabled, that will be a separate product.

this has been a confusing ride since the start of things. need to make things more clear about what people are buy, in terms of what there getting and not. I would high light "Miner Wars MMO will be a separate product." in bold and red text to make a point of it. even make a serpate section in the shop for the MMO part but with "to be confirmed" or "work in progress". I did think bk in the early day when i bought the game that i was getting the full lot and that there would be multi play elements.
Either way looking forward to the modular.
I am right in saying any one that buys the pre-alpha now do they dont get to use the new modular system unless they donate?

So i downloaded the demo, all i can figure out how to do is fire some guns/missles, and call on the solar flare, also mine and drill. I can also see that i can rearrange the setup of my ship (kinda) but other than that, nothing else to do. I cant figure out hot to sell my ore/minerals, dock to anything or interact with any of the objects in game other than shoot them to move or spin. Is that just the demo and the purchased version has the features discussed in the FAQ and other pages? I read all these cool things, but i cannot figure out how to make anything happen.

Might I recommend selling them as separate buys AND as a bundle? You'd have to do the pricing but a good example of this would be you can get the single player for $15.99 and the multiplayer for $19.99 separately or buy the bundle for $29.99 which includes both single and multiplayer versions. I'd also like to see something like a hat-shop from Team Fortress 2, possibly were you can buy graphical enhancements for your ship (I don't think you should make the graphical enhancements do anything but make your ship pretty- no power ups, speed boosts, ammo boosts, etc.)

I was about to buy the game just now, but as I was closing out the transaction with Moneybookers, it asked me for my phone number to send me a text message for "verification." I found this very odd so I did a quick google search for "reviews Moneybookers." The reviews are very, very bad. The site also has a D- rating with the Better Business Bureau. I am excited about the possibilities of the game and am very impressed with the demo so far, but this makes me nervous.
I'm still considering buying the game, I guess I could try pay pal. Will this give me access to content that is not in the demo (immediately), or will I have to wait for further updates to see anything new?

I agree Imfm. I found it pretty odd as well, luckily though, you can buy the game through more secure places such as Stardocks' Impulse program (kinda like steam) and I believe Steam as well, but I'm not sure.
