In Minecraft, there is/are always the problem of griefers, people who destroy other peoples' creations. In MW, it would not be fun if while you were gone, I did this to your asteroid base:

http://www.freeimagehosting.net/7ab71

But, keeping with being realistic, that should be allowed. The alternative option could be one of a few things:

1. Report system (in many games gets abused)
2. Periodic screenshot and upload system to catch people in the act
3. Lock down the user's sector when they log off
4. You can't destroy other peoples' stuff. Period.
5. Autoturrets or some AFK security system to protect your base while you're gone
6. AI contractors, that patrol and guard your base.
7. No personal bases
8. Police, like in EVE, that hunt you down if you kill/damage others' property, unless you kill them first.

Just putting this out there, because this is something that will eventually happen in a fully destructible game. Please respond with helpful/useful information and ideas.

I have to point out that Concord only handles high-sec in Eve. Lowsec and nullsec are completely up to the pilot to protect their assets in space.

Though, as far as PvP&player-owned objects go, Eve has a pretty solid model for that kind of thing. It would be nice to see some of the same "types" of systems in play, though also keep in mind that when Eve first came out (and I've been in that game since september of 03, so I DO know what I'm talking about) there was very little in the realm of player-owned content. Based on what I've seen of the design concepts for MinerWars so far, I'm thinking we'll probably be seeing the lowsec/nullsec approach. Think cyberpunk in that regard: megacorps run the real show, only "playing by the rules" in areas that the public can easily see... everything else (like space-based resource mining) would be pretty cutthroat.

Yes, I think that may be how it is run. It might so something like the following:

First, a bunch of corps come in, gain members, etc, a couple large ones fighting for control, a neutral one or two

Second, MW sets up AI and themselves to try and form a peaceful zone for new players (which some player corps are trying to do as well)

The player corps completely crush the MW corp, for whatever reason, and dominate them in participants and sector control

A few player corps come out on top, all wanting new members for different purposes, and it's relatively peaceful in terms of when you spawn, you won't get robbed.

These corps instate their own police force probably composed of drones, and keep things orderly.

Something goes down, and a war starts.

Peace is eventually restored, and the process repeats again.

I'd love to see something that's a combination of 5, 6, and 8.

Im pretty sure that something was said ages ago about possable auto turrets (option 5) too protect people and groups area's. Although agree that something like 5,6 or 8 would be great.

deployable equipment is already in the game and confirmed, how intelligent or configurable it will be is another story.

I always thought as the different factions (assuming they will be same as guilds) being like their own town/communities. Some would most likley take up more area than others and every different faction would have to play their part in defending theres. Guess it all depends how and where you set up your stuff. It's easily possible now to even make a well hidden base inside an asteroid. If theres a bunch on a map at once, wouldn't be terribly easy to find...

I do agree there prob should be a light def perimeter around factions and having guard bots or being able to set traps. Once in a while i think it could be interesting to do so if there was a way to tell who did it. Then you could get a group and hunt them down =D

I'd like to know if there will be a way to mark locations on your map or not. Currently there is no real map and no way to identify much of anything or to keep track of where you are.

I believe that players shouldn't have any dev-placed restrictions on how they play, so I think the only way to keep griefers off your stuff should be to defend yourself from them.

So Arcanus this is how it works.

Player G finds you working on your base and waits for you to go.
Arcanus logs off because its already midnight and you have work tomorrow.
Player G completely destroys your base while you sleep, perhaps he leaves a small piece of it left so you can cry when you see it. He then goes off into space.

You see how it works? He wont attack while you are in game, he waits for you to log off so what you said about defending it yourself wont work.

MW2081 is for carebearing and having your pretty creations safe and sound when you're offline, the MMO is about PvP and action.

there is no place for QQ'ers in the MMO! :) Plus with deployable weapons, I doubt anyone is going to be able to easily solo destroy a base.

I was just about to post: "A combination of 5,6, and 8 would be what I'd prefer since it'd allow the player's more freedom in what they want to do."

Then as I was reading through the posts I noticed that 5 months ago I posted: "I'd love to see something that's a combination of 5, 6, and 8."

At least I'm consistent.
