We're looking into ways for implementing such a feature (personal logo) in the game. So far we've only figured out how to do it for motherships but we'll keep on trying cause we want this thing too.

I have a feeling that if/when it is implemented you will have emblem wars x_X... also in the currently envisioned version will there be places for emblems to go or can you stamp your ship?

I got a really nice suggestion... a national flag on your ship. So when you are registerying to the game you put in your country and when you enter the game you will have your national flag on your ship. Dont think anyones done that before. And ofc lets say your country of origin isnt on the list or you entered the wrong one you could add it manually (Player tells country name + image file for flag > Admin views and accepts it > Player gets confirmation and flag is added to his ship and too the list for future reference)

I do like this feature, perhaps we can have an In-game editor where you're given a 32x32 pixel grid to make an emblem. Uploading something could work out well... I'd have no problem with there being a logo on the mother ship and have it copy it to the small ships. Each player shouldn't need more than one logo at a time, but it would be snazzy to have a logo for each ship. Not really required if we can have the same logo on our mothership as our mining ships.

A national flag could go along side the logo, or maybe in the emblem corner, so people know where they come from... but only if it doesn't conflict with faction logos. Ships I assume will be identified by their logos, meaning ships from factions will have distinct logos. If there are factions who are countries, like lets say the US, then I wouldn't want my being american to affiliate me with the US faction. Thus the US faction would have to have a logo that Isn't the flag, and thus other players from other countries would be able to join the US faction if they so choose.

Emblems like in Halo 3 are limited. A system like that should be implemented for the Xbox 360. For the computer, we should have full customization. But can the Xbox people see our computer logos if we are able to do a crossover?

Thats a good point, I suppose it could be like Descent 3 where there was a community where there was a file that recognized when certain players used taunts, and showed a logo for that particular player while his taunt played. We could release certain patches for PC that would have an alongside patch with the 360 so all the taunts would already be in the game, then we can restrict the special emblems for certain players, so people can have the 'special' logos. Then when the time comes, we could let the community(xbox players too) create their own emblems for the next emblem update.

I think, what ever ship we're flying, should just be the same colour as the mothship, no logo, not needed
but our own ship should have personal pics
atleast in the PC version, I'm not sure how that world work in Xbox :)

But opposing ships could also be the same color, especially in MMO. Having various corporations trying to find a color that is not already claimed. And, how are you to know if you landed in an allied ship or enemy ship if there is no logo? (targeting brackets may have been turned off by the player) Trust me, logos make it very easy to find allied capital ships when in small or large battles.

As for the custom logos, while I rarely notice logos on fighters of bombers (usually aimed at shooting them or looking around them, and not at their logo), logos for capital ships would be great. And logos on fighter/mining ships/whatever personal ship an ally or enemy has, could be lost in the detail, but could grant players that much more attachment to the ship, and thus, the game.

I'm not sure on how the "rights" to pimp your ship would be justified, but I sense that corporations will be able to at least land their corporate logos on their capital ships, and perhaps players, if so wanting, could decide to ahve their faction logo on their mining ship, if not their own custom design. Or... none at all.

The color of the ships really wouldn't matter. Visusally you could tell the difference between one faction and the other by the types of ships they have, and probrobly their logos as well... If you're with one faction, then you'll be able to get those ships, and regardless of what color you are, people will know you're from that faction, or once used to be.
About whether it's friend or foe visually, you'll have a radar that will determine this for you before hand. Not to mention a Hud that will display to you information on the matter.
With that being said, I'm not sure you will be able to change the color of the ship in this release yet, Putting logos on this ships is something we want to do, but custom logos might be a bit more difficult to do for everyone and still filter out offensive content. So perhaps we can make it a payable/unlockable feature in the MMO. Like pets in WoW. We're working on this :D

And who said the right to pimp your ride had to be cosmetic, it could be under the hood... or in your holster... Or even a chrome grill. But for you Fuzzy Dice...

I think that each medal you get should unlock something unique but there should be enough other stuff that people can have options.

I.E.
1 Spread The word Medal: TIGER camo + Fuzzy Dice
2 Spread The Word Medal: Leopard Camo + Custom Color Fuzzy Dice

That's just decals. Logos are pictures that you post on a certain place on your ship like on fighter jets. They may paint the squadron logo on the tail of the jet. Some have their own personal logos.

Maybe there should be 3 levels of logos. The company, the squadron, and the personal.
