ALRIGHT! I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS IDEA! I'm usually not very creative (AT ALL), but last night I was thinking "How could I have the most fun playing Miner Wars with somebody..." and a bunch of stuff popped into my head.
Split-screen gaming could be considered dead, but gentlemen I disagree. Let's say you're flying around in space doing some sort of cargo-collection mission. Instead of flying a small, one-man dogfighter, you're flying a larger cargo ship with some turrets on it for defense. Since it's such a big ship, it has room for two! If you have an Xbox 360 controller hooked into your PC (or a second controller on the console), your friend could hop in the action and be a turret gunner for you! Perhaps if you have a co-pilot with you but there's no need for a gunner, he could navigate the map or communicate with other pilots nearby; anything to take the load off your piloting ;) This would also be a cool way to take advantage of multiple monitors. Instead of splitting the screen on one monitor (which is still possible, especially for Xbox 360's), the turret gunner could use the second monitor all to himself!
Obviously this would take a bit more resources, but Left 4 Dead supports splitscreen AND monitor spanning, and I was able to run L4D splitscreen on both of my monitors without losing much performance at all! Not only that, but it was a lot of fun playing with my brother online! Sure, this feature might sound a bit unfair, but it makes sense! If splitscreen isn't an option for some people, then maybe have the co-pilot available as an option to anyone? Larger ships should be able to carry more people. If you don't have anyone to play splitscreen with, then maybe someone else online could offer to ride in your ship as a gunner, making this feature available to anyone and not have it specific to splitscreen players.
What do you guys think? Do you kinda get where I'm coming from?

yeah it'd be very cool to have a gunner buddy in the same ship. I think we talked about this but can't remember in what thread. But yeah.
The split screen is a little alien to me on a pc but Marek mentioned something in another thread about multiple monitors, but I don't have the connections for that. But if I did, I definitely would.
Then again maybe not, the 6DOF get's me woozy sometimes. That's probably just me, I get turned around real easy. Remember that when i come gunnin for ya in the game and you'll have one on me.

Hehe. Noted ;) I'm familiar with splitscreen gaming in every possible form, and I have the equipment to play with it, too. Here's the Left 4 Dead thing I was talking about. The way I played splitscreen on two monitors was spanning it across both my monitors and splitting the screens vertically. Each player had one monitor! Of course, sharing the same monitor is always possible.

This is a great example of FPS splitscreen on PC. It works amazingly well! The functionality can also carry over to the 360 because an Xbox 360 controller would be the best way to control the gunner on PC, and splitscreen gameplay is not foreign to the 360.
A lot of people shy away from splitscreen for PC games, especially FPS games like this, when in fact it can be implemented fairly and intelligently. If done correctly-- and I'm sure you guys can do it correctly-- it can add a whole lot to the gaming experience!
