Lets say you mined a huge load of gold ore, but you can't risk going back to your mothership as you might be ambushed by pirates. Well I'm thinking that players could have the ability to dig a hole and place some of their cargo into it. They'd mark it in their journal and go back. The downside though, is that someone could have a scanner and detect loose ore below them. This means to them that they don't have to use as much fuel to get the ore, and they can wait for you to return and kill you. Thats all for now, suggestions will help.

EDIT: The ore or whatever is you choose to hide is in a container. NOTE: The container should be more likely to show up on the scanner than the ore around a player, so you need to choose a good place to hide it.

I like this idea a lot, maybe you could even have the ability to jettison your cargo into space, just incase you get ambushed, when you jettison the cargo its coordinates at launch and the direction it was traveling could be recorded. Of course your attackers could just follow te cargo after you jettison it.

Opening it would be great, say you had a bunch of worthless ore, you could eject it at high speeds because of explosive decompression. These rocks would serve as a slight offensive weapon and also defensive if you tru to escape. Because they would have to dodge these large chunks of debris, and the rocks could also block bullets and unguided rockets.

Why don't you make a topic about that, it's your idea, I won't steal it from you.

:D i like the way this thread is going. hiding something and expecting it to be there when you get back doesn't always work in video games, unfortunately. think back to an older game where you could move objects around, the location was not saved, so if you got too far away or left the level it was reset, or deleted. just because the asteroids, and destruction is saved, that may take alot of memory on its own. add on the fact that it's an mmo, and there would be pedabytes worth of stuff people "forgot about." and maybe several megabytes of stuff very close to a player at once. if, maybe you could haul around a storage container, and leave stuff in that, then hide it; that would be much better. i like this idea, it just doesn't seem practical to dump loose items, 'specialy not in space.

btw: you do NOT have to make a new thread for each idea

Maybe you could have a time limit on the objects, say 20 minutes before they are deleted from the server. That will give ample time to escape and come back later. This would also allow for the wide variety of uses mentioned for this udea, while still consrving system memory.

or where stuff is left for too long, pirates would apear. This would work with wrecks, where, left for long enought, would lure space scavengers that will atack you if you get near their loot (first, watning you).
